Our community health centre, Mohalla Clinic at Janta Nagar, Mandala, Mumbai, was formally inaugurated today on 12th October 2023. US-based Neurologist and COO of HILFE Dr Nilay Shah and local Corporator Ms. Sakre cut the ribbon and threw open to the public the much-needed medical facility in one of the poorest and neglected parts of Mumbai called Mankhurd or M-East Ward.

Janta Nagar, built over the dumping ground compresses of an impoverished community of daily wage workers. Medical services are very difficult to access. This clinic hopes to provide affordable primary medical care starting at Rs. 20. This clinic is situated in a neighbourhood where even a technically free death certificate is acquired by paying over Rs. 1000 to a nexus of corrupt middlemen.

This centre is the first of the many similar clinics we hope to open in other similarly impoverished locations.

We commend and appreciate the willingness of our doctor in charge Dr. Shilpa Varma, to serve the community in the city’s most remote neighbourhood.
