Take app-based construction service provider under the ambit of Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board
Collect mandatory 1% cess for the welfare of construction workers
Kamgar Sanrakshan Sammaan Sangh (KSSS), today has submitted representation before the Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board demanding collection of mandatory 1% cess from the app-based service provider in the construction sector. KSSS also demanded that construction workers associated with the Urban Company and many such aggregators should be registered with the board.

To make the registration process easy for the app-based workers associated with inputs industry of construction work, KSSS demanded that “The work history of the Urban Company Workers can be treated as work proof. If any construction worker from the Urban Company is able to furnish 90 days work history, then that should be treated as the 90 days work certificate instead of expecting the workers to get the work certificate from the municipal corporation which is a very tedious process”.
Since, the Urban Company provide construction services, they also qualify as an establishment to be registered under the of Maharashtra Building and Other Construction Welfare Board as per the THE BUILDING AND OTHER CONSTRUCTION WORKERS’ (REGULATION OF EMPLOYMENT AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE) ACT, 19961. As an establishment they are also required to be contributing 1% cess from the profit they earn out construction services provided by them. KSSS believes that the world of work is changing and therefore the state has to recognize the new forms of employment and make sure they are regulated strictly as per the labour laws.
Today during the meeting with the Board’s official, KSSS also demanded a tripartite meeting -where each stakeholders to discuss workers’ wages, working conditions, work-site safety and social security benefits.
